10 Reasons I Love My Job as a Camgirl

March 8, 2015 24 Comments 39792 Views

This wouldn’t be a site about webcam modeling if I didn’t write about why so many people seem to love the job (myself included). So here are 10 counterpoints to my previous post, 10 Reasons NOT to be a Camgirl.

The Pros of Camming

1. I quit my day job.

This is a pro so many recruiters love to focus on because so many people are dissatisfied in their jobs. But it doesn’t make it any less true – if you’re good at it, camming part time can replace a daily 9-5 grind. If you hate your job, being a camgirl could ultimately let you quit altogether.

It took me about 2-4 months to get to the point that my camming income matched and eventually passed up my desk job income.

2. I can make money in my sleep.

Every video you release for VOD or pictures you upload for sale increases your potential to create a passive income stream.

In other words, by having content available when you’re offline, you could be making money in your sleep.

3. I go to work in my pyjamas.

Go to work in whatever you want. It can be seriously fun trying out new outfits and lingerie on cam. I love shopping for my alter-ego.

4. I get paid to be myself.

You don’t have to put on an act unless you want to or feel it would increase your profits.

Some of the best advice I’ve ever heard about webcam modeling is to BE YOURSELF. Simple yet so often overlooked by new models. There is no cookie-cutter model persona – you get to create your own according to who you actually are. Be real on cam and you’ll attract fans you jive with.

5. I have a naughty secret.

Of course, this can be a pro and a con – who likes keeping secrets from close family and friends? But if you cam on the side of your day job, you can make it your naughty secret while earning some extra spending money.

I used to love that feeling before I quit my other job. I would go to work having already made a day’s wage. It actually made my other job less stressful, and it helped that I knew I was on my way out.

6. I am self-employed, self-managed, and self-motivated.

If you aren’t, you’re in the wrong line of work babe. If you are, you’ll enjoy scheduling your own hours and daily routines around the things that actually matter to you in your life.

Stop and smell the dandelions

7. I have the time to pursue my real passions and spend my energy in more meaningful ways.

What does your current job get in the way of?

I know when I was working a full time desk job, I always came home too tired to really do any of my hobbies. Time spent with family was either non-existent or low quality (think watching TV). I had all kinds of projects on the back burner and never really had the time or energy to finish anything.

Webcam modeling changed that for me.

8. I interact with all kinds of different people from around the globe.

9. I’ve gained confidence and self-esteem.

Sound counter-intuitive? It shouldn’t. Fans treat the models they love like goddesses. You’ll get all kinds of compliments on your physical attributes and your personality. Some good guys out there will tip you just for engaging in conversation. Some fans might even send you gifts if you let them (through third party services that keep your location completely anonymous).

10. I get to share my experience and insight with an awesome community of cam models.

With experience in the industry, you’ll learn how to tell what’s real and what isn’t.

It will become easier to identify good cam sites and avoid any scams, and maybe you’ll even stick around O Camgirl to pass on the wisdom you gain in the process. 😉

scam or legit

Again, please don’t skip over the previous post. Webcam modeling has been a great line of work for me personally, but it is not for everyone and I do want you to make an informed decision if you are contemplating becoming a camgirl yourself.

As always I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to drop them in the box below. I promise I’ll respond.

Hi Cat, is there any advice you can give a married woman going into this? My husband is supportive and I’d really love to just earn extra money for traveling and home renovations, so I’m wondering how to engage with men with such a practical reason for earning money? Do you find there’s maybe even a niche for married women to be successful? I’d like to think I could use it to my advantage in this career. Also, can you recommend any good sites to start on? You can email me privately if you can’t speak on specific sites due to sponsorship or something like that. Thanks!

Hi Candace, we have some big articles being released soon and resource pages. You can definitely used the married angle, in your username for example “MarriedMilf” etc, make it known straight away so anyone looking for that niche can spot you straight away.

The clients you will be camming with will most likely already cammed with others, so after a few chats it will all feel natural, just like you are talking with a client at a bar for instance, once the ice is broke you will be great.

Each site has its own version of camming, chaturbate is very popular but its token/tip based whereas Streamate.com is pay per minute based. I would probably go with Streamate to get started. We are releasing a forum soon for everyone to chat on and perhaps a whatsapp group so feel free to check back for updates.

Thank you for putting your perspective on the internet. Whether or not I personally choose to do this, I’m glad this point of view is out there for curious people to find. Thank you, Cat! Keep being you!!

Hi! Thank you so much for your post. I am looking to start my career in camming but I have no idea what to do to start or where. I understand that you are busy but if you take the time to email me to sort of point me in the right direction that would be awesome! Thank you so much.

    • Cat February 12, at 11:03

Hi Shantelle! This post does an excellent job of outlining what to do to start and where. If you still need help after following along, please don’t hesitate to shoot me a message. Thank you for visiting O Camgirl!

Hi there! Thank you for writing this peice. I am considering doing webcam modeling and am doing a ton of research on it before I jump in. If there is any other information you could give me about the job, that would be awesome. Maybe if you email me, we can chat about my ideas of how I would like things to go (if I do it) and how realistic you think my ideas are.

    Thank you. ♥️

Hi Jay! I’m so glad to hear you’re doing your research. Too many people jump in without fully understanding what they’re getting into. I’d be happy to talk more with you, feel free to email me at tylr.cat@gmail.com 🙂

What are some trusted third party gift sites, and how do they work?

    • Cat March 28, at 15:24

I trust and use Delivery Code. You can link to any item online and add it to your wish list. Your customer pays Delivery Code for the item, and Delivery Code orders the item on your behalf. Customer never sees your name or address. This is safer than using Amazon because there is no chance of your address being shared with the buyer. Hope that helps!

Technically, yes. BUT the money in this business comes from regular customers, and regular customers come for your personality, which your face is a big part of. I can definitely understand if you’re concerned about your privacy. I recommend trying wigs or doing your makeup differently to disguise your face instead of hiding it.

I found this whilst searching for a way for my daughter to build an online career. She’s in her last year of high school and I don’t want her to just waste her talent and looks by getting trapped in the nine to five minimum wage trap when she leaves school. This looks to be a very viable business model in order to build a passive income. Thanks. I will pass it on to her 🙂

    • Cat March 08, at 18:37

Coolest. Dad. Ever. Your daughter is lucky to have you looking out for her financial future. This is definitely something I wish I had discovered at her age. So much wasted time! Thanks for commenting Steve. Cheers 🙂

  7. Tina March 08, at 17:24

Hi Cat. This is the first time I’ve read an article about webcam modeling. It never crosses my mind that someone can make money doing it. I would assume that a person who is camera-shy would not be pursuing this endeavor. But who knew this could actually boost a person’s confidence and self-esteem.

    • Cat March 08, at 17:42

Hi Tina, thank you for reading your first article about webcam modeling here at O Camgirl 😀 It’s really common that people have never even thought or heard about this job, mostly because it is so stigmatized in society. Believe it or not, I consider myself camera-shy. Being on cam as a camgirl is different somehow, probably because I can actually see myself so I can make sure I don’t look silly or have lipstick on my teeth or something haha. Thank you again for reading and for sharing your thoughts.

  8. Liam March 08, at 16:32

Awesome post as always Cat. Not speaking from experience or anything, but I think that being a camgirl/boy would be a really interesting job but you really need someone like yourself to give helpful advice to keep your business growing and moving forward.

    • Cat March 08, at 17:02

Thanks Liam! Interesting is a good word for it 😛 Too many girls and guys get excited about the above benefits so they sign up, maybe go to work once, don’t make any money, get frustrated, and quit. I do hope that O Camgirl will be helpful to new models. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

I think the reasons you gave in your article are valid and something that could help other girls from deciding if this was for them

    • Cat March 08, at 18:51

Thanks David! I appreciate your comments.

  10. Emily March 08, at 16:01

    hi Cat
I can see you truly are passionate about your job and warning others of the potential traps. I can also see how it could be good for one’s self-esteem and I guess just allow yourself to be yourself in the context of anonymity. You are then free to act freely in a sense with customers and you control your own business.

    • Cat March 08, at 16:22

You’re absolutely right, Emily! The veil of anonymity that comes with this job has been particularly freeing for myself. It not only gives me the space to just be myself, but it also serves as an outlet and a means to exploring my own sexuality. Plus I’m the boss. I like that part 😛 Thank you again for commenting and sharing your thoughts.
